The Asylum released "Monster Island," its 2019 mockbuster, around the same period as "Godzilla: King of the Monsters". It is about an island called Monster Island where a monster lives. The monster is in some ways the island.


This movie is about an asylum and has a budget that's about the same as a large kid's meal. It also uses it sparingly. It is focused on a handful of human characters. All the scenes can be shot during lunch break on one set. It is a kaiju movie and that's just how they do, (blog post) so perhaps The Asylum won’t do such an awful job.
